An umbrella spends most of its life closed.
Folded.
Quiet.
Easy to carry.
Nothing about it suggests what it was made for.
Then the rain begins.
Some people open it without thinking. Others keep walking. Just a little farther, Maybe the rain will stop, Maybe it isn't that heavy.
By the time they finally reach for it, their clothes are already soaked.
The umbrella stayed folded through the one moment that needed it open.
Life keeps handing us things that only make sense the moment we're willing to use them.
A phone call that sits unmade for years works like that.
An apology typed and deleted, typed and deleted, works like that too.
A letter, written and sealed, still sitting unopened in a drawer, works like that as well.
They stay tucked away, waiting for a day that somehow never feels like the right one. Nothing changes while they remain folded. Time keeps falling, one drop after another.
Eventually, the rain passes.
Somewhere, an umbrella is still new.
Still dry.
Still folded shut, exactly where it was left.
The moment it was meant for has already gone.
It will stay this dry, this new, this closed, until the next storm asks the same question all over again.
If this made you think of something you've been keeping folded, stay a little longer. There's more coming.
