We spend so much of life looking ahead.

The next milestone.

The next promotion.

The next city.

The next version of ourselves.

It's easy to believe the destination is doing all the work.

I'm not sure it is.

Think about a goal you've carried for years.

If you reached it today, what would actually matter more?

The achievement itself?

Or the person you had to become to get there?

Discipline rarely appears overnight.

Neither does patience.

Or humility.

Or perspective.

Those things are usually built while nothing seems to be happening.

Long before anyone notices.

Long before the finish line is even visible.

Maybe that's why looking back feels so different from looking forward.

On the way there, the journey feels like an obstacle.

Looking back, it often turns out to have been the gift.

If any part of this stayed with you, you're probably still in the middle of it.
